Ron Mahay Out for Season
Saturday, August 15th, 1998
Ron Mahay of the Red Sox just might have to call it quits for the season. The 27-year-old Boston reliever received a possible season-ending injury against the Cincinnati Reds recently at Riverfront Stadium. Mahay suffered a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament while throwing a pitch. The Red Sox medical staff said he could be out quite some time, as much as 6-7 months.
Mahay has taken the mound for 21 relief appearances this season, nailing down 5 saves while notching a 1-2 record with a 15.16 ERA. The Boston reliever has limited opposing batters to a .362 batting average.
