Colorado's Jason Schmidt Suffers Setback
Sunday, August 23rd, 1998
All is not well with Jason Schmidt in his recovery from shoulder inflammation.
The 25-year-old Rockies starting pitcher has already reached some significant steps in his rehabilitation, but his manager said that the team will continue to be cautious with Schmidt and take his progression one day at a time, especially after the setback yesterday.
"Yesterday he was feeling good but he didn't do a lot on the field," he said. "Today he was supposed to be on the field doing light stuff and then gradually start working right back up. I think he overdid it."
A post-workout examination revealed that Schmidt had re-injured himself and would now miss at least 8 months because of it.
Jason Schmidt is expected to undergo surgery in Denver(Colorado) tomorrow.
This year Schmidt has posted a 7-3 mark in 14 starts and has a 2.75 ERA.
