Evans Hitless, Streak Ends at 20 Thursday, April 16th, 1998 Maybe it really is taboo to talk about a hitting streak before it's over. Hours after speaking to the press about his 20-game hitting streak, Bluff City third baseman Tom Evans went hitless in 5 at-bats today at Torrance Grounds. The sudden hitting drought came as the Beasties took the 18-4 win over the Asheville Moonshiners. "Nope, it's not magic," Evans said in his postgame press conference. "Nobody jinxed me. Streaks don't last forever. I've heard about it every day for weeks now. My roomie told me to get a hit before every game and wished me luck. I just ran out of hits." This year Evans is batting .349 with 22 hits and 4 home runs. He has scored 11 times and has batted in 11 runs. |
