Devil Rays Shut Out Red Sox
|
Orlando Devil Rays starter Alan Benes pitched effectively against the Boston Red Sox at Orlando Citrus Bowl. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 6-0 win. In 6 innings, Benes surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Cory Lidle got the save, his 1st in 1 chances.
Bobby Bonilla, who led the FL in extra base hits with 85 in 1995, chipped in for Orlando with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI.
"We'll savor this win," Bonilla told the Orlando Daily News, "then get ready for the next game."
