Late Rally by Senators Secures Win
|
The Washington Senators got a strong performance from pitcher Kevin Millwood, who stymied the San Diego offense en route to a 3-1 win at Jack Murphy Stadium. Washington reliever Dan Plesac picked up the win, upping his record to 6-1. Ismael Valdez absorbed the loss. Washington is now 67-33, 7 games up in the United League East Division.
Washington used the timely hitting of Carlos Beltran to capture the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Senators on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"It was a good effort all around," said Beltran.
