Cardinals Win at Boston, 6-4
The St. Louis Cardinals topped the Boston Red Sox, 6-4, in Federal League action at Fenway Park. The player of the game was St. Louis pitcher and Los Angeles, California native Mark Portugal. In 5.2 innings, Portugal surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. He allowed 4 runs. Randy Myers earned his 6th save in 9 chances.

St. Louis used the timely hitting of Edgardo Alfonzo to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Cardinals on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Alfonzo told the St. Louis Daily News.

The losing streak for Boston has now reached 5 games.
