Big Day by Vidro Sparks Cubs Win
The Chicago Cubs knocked off the Minnesota Twins, 9-3, at Metrodome. Jose Vidro, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Chicago won. The second baseman went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Mike Hampton earned the win for Chicago. He lasted 7.2 innings, allowing no earned runs on 4 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 10-11. The last-place Cubs now have a win-loss record of 44-67.

It could have been a different outcome for Chicago, had it not been for Willie Greene, the 26-year old third baseman . Greene contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Chicago up, 3-0.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Vidro said.
