Rockies Win at San Diego, 4-1
|
The Colorado Rockies beat the San Diego Padres, 4-1, at Jack Murphy Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of first baseman Todd Helton, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs. The Rockies bumped their record to 58-53 with this latest triumph.
Brian Jordan had a big solo home run for the Rockies in the top of the fourth inning. With Colorado leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a changeup from Darryl Kile and stroked the home run to left. It was his 4th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rockies ahead, 2-0.
"It was a solid team effort," said Helton after the game.
