Blue Jays Lose, 7-5, at Memorial Stadium
|
The Baltimore Orioles knocked off the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-5, at Memorial Stadium. Chris Brown, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Baltimore won. The third baseman was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Dwight Gooden got the win, improving to 4-10. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. Heathcliff Slocumb was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 12 of 16 save opportunities.
With two out in the bottom of the fifth, Darryl Hamilton had a game-changing hit. The Orioles center fielder slammed a 2-run single off Pat Combs, making the score 7-4, Baltimore.
"Nice to get this one," said Hamilton. "Wins have been hard to come by."
Even with the win, the Orioles have a dismal 29-85 record.
