Mets Nip Angels, 8-7
|
Las Vegas first baseman Danny Tartabull was sensational. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. New York beat the Angels, 8-7. Tartabull was named the player of the game despite the loss. Jason Isringhausen was the winner. Over 6 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 4 hits, with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. The Mets bumped their record to 68-46 with this latest triumph.
The Mets beat the Angels with some clutch hitting. The home run by Magglio Ordonez in the bottom of the fifth is a good example. With two down, Ordonez gave his team the lead, 8-5, when he came through with the big hit.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Ordonez, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
