Extra-Inning Win by Knights over Red Sox
|
The Charlotte Knights relied on the hitting of third baseman Tony Batista to stop the Boston Red Sox, 6-5. For the game, Batista was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Charlotte reliever Darren Holmes picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Andrew Lorraine was saddled with the loss. Boston has now lost 5 straight.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Jeff Bagwell came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Boston pitcher Andrew Lorraine, he hit a 1-1 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Charlotte on top, 6-5.
"Everyone's trying too hard," said losing manager Brett Williams. "If we learn to relax, we'll be fine."
