Spiezio Helps Reds Run Win Streak to 3
|
The Cincinnati Reds beat the Boston Red Sox, 9-3, at Riverfront Stadium. Cincinnati first baseman Scott Spiezio earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Mike Mussina earned the win to go to 16-10. He allowed 3 earned runs on 10 hits, with 3 walks and 12 strikeouts. This loss makes it 8 in a row for Boston.
The Reds beat the Red Sox with some clutch hitting. The single by Miguel Cairo in the bottom of the second is a good example. With two down, Cairo gave his team the lead, 2-0, when he came through with the big hit.
"We came out aggressive," said Reds manager John Frey. "We came out swinging the bats."
