Phillies Prevail, 4-3, Over Boston
|
Philadelphia beat Boston at Fenway Park, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Chris Carpenter, who earned player of the game honors. Carpenter, the winner, moves to 6-10. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 4 walks. The Red Sox, now 40-96, have lost 4 in a row.
Gabe Kapler took Bob Ojeda deep with one out in the top of the fourth. On a 2-2 changeup, Kapler drilled a 2-run home run to left. It was his 12th home run of the season and put Philadelphia on top, 3-2.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Carpenter.
