The Bluff City Beasties beat the Asheville Moonshiners, 6-5 at Torrance Grounds, in part due to designated hitter Jeff Treadway, who nabbed player of the game honors. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Asheville, at 4-11, is off to a poor start in 1998.

It could have been a different outcome for Bluff City, had it not been for Ben Davis, the 21-year old catcher . Davis contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Bluff City up, 6-5.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Treadway told reporters after the game.
