|
The Jacksonville Suns topped the Hartford Whalers, 6-3, in Atlantic action at Field of the Running Rebels. The player of the game was Jacksonville pitcher Tim Belcher. Belcher went 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 4. His record improves to 3-0. Shayne Bennett locked down his 3rd save.
The Suns took the lead in the bottom of the second. With one out, Pete Rose Jr hit a 2-run home run off Hartford pitcher Mike Thurman, putting Jacksonville in front, 3-0. For the game, Rose Jr went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Rose Jr.
Jacksonville, now 11-7, has played well in the early going.
