Swamp Foxes Fall Short, 4-3, at Jacksonville
|
Jacksonville Suns starter Tim Belcher was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Savannah Swamp Foxes, 4-3. Belcher, now 4-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 11 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. Shayne Bennett locked down his 5th save.
Lenny Webster had a big run-scoring single for the Suns in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Jacksonville leading 3-2 and a runner on 2nd, he got a curveball from David Nied and stroked the single to center. It was his 27th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Suns ahead, 4-2.
"We did enough to win," said Webster.
The Suns, now 16-17, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
