Whalers Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Beasties
Bluff City got a terrific game from left fielder Rikkert Faneyte. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Hartford, 11-7. Faneyte was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Hartford reliever Steve Connelly picked up the win to move to 1-0. Marty Janzen suffered the loss. Hartford is in third place in the Atlantic Northeast with a record of 20-17.

Quinton McCracken, who is tied for 4th in the ATL in stolen bases with 4, aided the Hartford cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the left fielder was 1-5.
