Portland pitcher Ron Blazier did his part in helping his team beat the Nashville Sounds, 4-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The winning pitcher was Blazier, now 1-0. He tossed 5.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 2. The 4th-place Stag improved to 15-15.

Portland designated hitter Mike Macfarlane made his contribution to the Stag cause with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. For the day, Macfarlane went 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
