Spirited fans at Premont Grounds greeted the Tacoma Rainiers for their clash with the Portland Stag.
Portland beat Tacoma on the strength of starter Scott Karl's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a 6-2 win. Karl went 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 0, and struck out 5. His record improves to 3-2.
The result might have been different for Portland, had it not been for Butch Huskey. The center fielder produced a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Stag ahead, 1-0. For the game, Huskey had 1 double and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"I really like what we did out there today," Huskey said after the game.
Portland is now 17-25, while Tacoma is 17-25.
