Despite a great performance by Spokane designated hitter Mike Simms, the Tucson Tarantulas defeated the River Rats by the score of 6-4 at Foxes Ballpark. Simms was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Kevin Tapani earned the win to go to 5-4. He allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Keith Foulke got credit for the save for Tucson. It was his 13th of the year.
The Tarantulas grabbed the lead in the top of the fourth. With two out, Dave Hollins hit a 2-run home run off Scott Eyre, putting Tucson in front, 6-0. For Hollins, it was his 9th home run of the season.
Hollins told a Tucson Times reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
With the win, the Tarantulas have a record of 26-27.
