The Portland Stag easily defeated the Tucson Tarantulas, 12-4, at Tuttle Fields, with third baseman Mike Metcalfe a main contributor to the win. He was 4-5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4 for Portland. Ron Blazier picked up the win, improving his season record to 2-3. He struck out 3 in 5 innings. The Stag now have a record of 22-38.

Metcalfe came through with some timely hitting for Portland. With the score 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth and one down, Metcalfe hit a 2-1 slider for a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season made it 5-3, Portland.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Portland skipper .
