Johnson Slugs Stag to 9-5 Win
The Portland Stag beat the Tacoma Rainiers, 9-5, at Tuttle Fields. Mark P Johnson was recognized as player of the game for his performance. He belted 2 home runs. He drove in 7 runs and scored twice. The 30-year old first baseman was a menace to Tacoma all day. Ron Blazier earned the win to go to 3-4. He allowed 3 earned runs on 8 hits, with 1 walk and 1 strikeout. Vic Darensbourg was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 16 of 19 save opportunities.

With Portland leading 2-0 in the bottom of the third, Johnson hit a slider from Greg McMichael for a bases-clearing double. It was his 16th double of the season and put the Stag ahead, 5-0.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Johnson told the Portland Daily News.

Portland is now riding a 3-game win streak.
