Stag Stymie Salt Lake City, Take 4-1 Win
The Stag had to overcome a good performance from Salt Lake City pitcher Mike Oquist to claim a 4-1 win at Bella Vista Grounds. Oquist went 6.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. The winner was Portland reliever John LeRoy, now 1-3. The loser was Mark Acre. Vic Darensbourg converted his 25th save in 30 tries.

Portland relied on the hitting of Mark P Johnson to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Stag on top, 1-0. For the game, Johnson had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Johnson.

The last-place Stag are now 39-60, the Buzz 43-56.
