|
The Portland Stag picked up a win at Tuttle Fields, knocking off the Idaho Falls Chukars, 5-2. Starting pitcher Scott Karl played a key role in the triumph. Karl, now 6-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. Kerry Ligtenberg got the save, his 4th in 5 chances.
Chris Widger had an important at-bat with one out in the bottom of the eighth, when he hit a run-scoring single. His 72nd hit of the season put Portland on top, 3-2.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Widger.
