Late Rally by Red Sox Secures Win
|
In a low-scoring clash between Boston and Philadelphia, pitcher Mark Thompson was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned player of the game honors for Boston in the 2-1 win. Boston reliever Roberto Hernandez was the winner. His record is now 2-1. The losing pitcher was Jose Mesa. Joe Borowski closed it out for his 5th save.
Boston took a 2-1 lead on Mike Blowers's 2nd home run of the season. The solo home run came off Philadelphia pitcher Jose Mesa in the bottom of the eighth.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Thompson, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
Boston is 5th in the Federal League East Division with a record of 15-25.
