Twins Stun Reds, 4-3
|
Minnesota beat Cincinnati at Riverfront Stadium, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to left fielder Jerome Walton, who earned player of the game honors. Earning his 5th save of the year was Trevor Hoffman. Minnesota is now 24-27, while Cincinnati is 31-21.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Larry Walker came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Jeff Suppan, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Minnesota on top, 4-3.
After the game, Minnesota manager Darren Fischbach applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
