Hernandez, Expos Wallop Athletics
Riding the 3-hit performance of the top prospect Jose Hernandez, the Montreal Expos stopped the Oakland Athletics, 11-1. Steve Avery got the win, improving to 9-3. He worked 9 innings, giving up 1 run on 7 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. The Expos own a robust 50-29 mark.

The result might have been different for Montreal, had it not been for Sean Casey. The left fielder produced a run-scoring double in the top of the second inning to put the Expos ahead, 2-0. For the game, Casey had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Montreal manager David Polakoff.
