Blowers slugs 2 home runs as Red Sox Squeeze Past Cincinnati
The Boston Red Sox beat the Cincinnati Reds, 10-9, at Riverfront Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of third baseman Mike Blowers, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Boston reliever Joe Borowski picked up the win, upping his record to 2-4. Arthur Rhodes absorbed the loss. Roberto Hernandez, credited with the save, is now 5 for 6 in save opportunities.

The Red Sox got a big at-bat from catcher Raul Casanova. For the game, Casanova was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. In the top of the ninth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Boston a 10-9 lead.

"What a game," said Blowers. "We needed every last run."

Boston is 5th in the Federal League East Division with a record of 30-49.
