Victory Over Expos Takes Toronto to 8-2
Montreal wasted a solid 7-inning effort from starting pitcher Pedro Martinez, losing to Toronto, 2-1, at SkyDome. Eric King got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 6 innings. Frank Wills, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save.

Mark McGwire went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Toronto. The 1997 UL home run champion had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two out and a runner on 1st, he broke a 0-0 tie with a 2-run home run off Pedro Martinez. It was his 5th home run of the season.

"It's great to be on a roll," said McGwire.

Toronto, now 8-2, is setting the league on fire so far.
