Rockies Prevail, 4-2, Over San Diego
|
The Colorado Rockies picked up a win at Jack Murphy Stadium, knocking off the San Diego Padres, 4-2. Starting pitcher Jose Rijo, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Rijo, now 7-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing 2 earned runs. Colorado has 3 straight wins, San Diego 3 straight losses.
The Rockies got a big at-bat from right fielder Eric Davis. For the game, Davis went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the seventh, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 35th home run of the season gave Colorado a 2-0 lead.
"Feels good to get the job done," Davis said after the game.
