Tight Tilt Goes to Moonshiners, 3-2
|
Fans who gathered at Field of the Running Rebels saw a good contest between the Asheville Moonshiners and Jacksonville Suns.
Asheville beat Jacksonville at Field of the Running Rebels, eking out a 3-2 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Carl Pavano, who earned player of the game honors. Pavano picked up the win for Asheville, going 6 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 2-4. Jeff Juden converted his 10th save in 15 tries.
The Moonshiners beat the Suns in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Doug Mientkiewicz produced in the top of the seventh. Batting against Jacksonville pitcher Ricky Bones, Mientkiewicz gave his team a 2-1 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager .
The 4th-place Suns have lost 5 straight games.
