Huskey Goes Wild, But Tarantulas Win
|
Tucson withstood an impressive performance by Portland center fielder Butch Huskey to defeat the Stag, 11-8, at Ballpark of Louisville. Huskey belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Dave Veres, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. Keith Foulke was credited with the save for Tucson, his 6th of the season.
Pablo Martinez went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for Tucson. In the bottom of the seventh, with the teams deadlocked, 8-8, Martinez delivered for the Tarantulas. His run-scoring single put Tucson on top, 9-8.
In postgame comments to the Tucson Times, Martinez said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Tarantulas raised their record to 11-17.
