Knights Win at Boston, 7-2
|
Charlotte Knights starter Tony Saunders was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Boston Red Sox, 7-2. Saunders, now 6-2, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 10, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Charlotte has an impressive 32-15 record.
Charlotte used the timely hitting of Nomar Garciaparra to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put the Knights on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Charlotte manager Tyler Vuxta.
