Red Sox Stumble, Lose to Cubs
|
The Chicago Cubs beat the Boston Red Sox, 9-3, at Wrigley Field. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Scott Cooper, who captured player of the game honors. He went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Scott Chiamparino was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Chicago is now riding a 3-game win streak.
Cooper contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Chicago in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 2-1, Cooper took a fastball from John Ericks and stroked the home run to right-center. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Cubs to leap in front, 4-2.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Cooper said.
